Château La Croix Saint André

Carayon Family

Lalande de Pomerol

14 hectares

The Lalande-de-Pomerol appellation is comprised of a thousand hectares of vines in the villages of Lalande-de-Pomerol and Neac. It lies just to the north of Pomerol, separated by the slight Barbanne Stream.

Château La Croix Saint André is located in the commune of Neac on a plateau overlooking Pomerol. The Carayon family has farmed these 15 hectares since 1965, one part of which is 100+ years old and considered to be the oldest in this appellation. The property is planted to 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. Yields are kept exceptionally low with rigorous pruning and each lot, according to its soil type and grape type, is fermented and aged separately. The wine is left in contact with the skins for an extended period of 6 to 8 weeks then aged for a year in 2 and 3 year old barrels. At the end of this process a selection of casks is made to produce La Croix Saint André. The wine was a favorite of the pianist Arthur Rubinstein and the 1982 vintage was dedicated to his memory.
